Job Description – Will work with Coordinator on some or all of the following:
•    Student Assessment – establishment of procedures and data collection
•    Establishment of Class Registration procedures
•    Revision / Refinement of Formal and Informal class procedures
•    Planning Classes for 5 semesters in FY 09-10
•    Planning Formal Tri-Annual Volunteer-Teacher Orientations, Fall, Spring, and Summer
•    Planning Informal Monthly Volunteer-Teacher Training Meetings
•    Other duties as assigned

Expectations
•    At least 7 hours per week, more if desired – individualized schedule will be created
•    Hours and Days available
o    Mornings: 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM
o    Afternoons: 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM
o    Monday through Thursday – no Fridays
o    Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings: 5:30 PM – 9 PM (during class semester)
•    Choice of schedule formats
o    Full day
•    1 AM and 1 PM
o    Half days
•    Any combination of half days
o    Evenings
o    Any combination of the above

Requirements
•    Applicant MUST have serious interest in BOTH teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) and the immigrant Hispanic / Latino population.

Job Description
Works under supervision of ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) Coordinator, as follows:

•    Teaches Conversational and Basic English to mostly Hispanic, mainly Beginner level English proficiency learners, many of whom have 6 years or less of formal education
o    In small or large groups, or sometimes 1:1
o    May teach using audio or video professional English Language Programs
o    May teach in or monitor our computer lab, using professional English Language Programs
o    Uses English to teach these classes – knowing Spanish is not necessary, though it may be helpful. We strongly discourage our Teachers from teaching in Spanish.
o    Tracks ongoing assessment of students’ English language proficiency
o    Uses ongoing students’ assessment to plan and implement 2 hour classes
•    Attends non-mandatory monthly professional development meetings and tri-annual “Teacher Orientation”
o    Volunteer-Teachers take turns presenting “Best Practices” or “What Works”
•    If desired, Teaching Intern may present at one or more monthly meeting.
•    Helps to create teaching materials for use by all our Volunteer-Teachers
•    Helps as assistants to the program when possible
o    Word processing
o    Data entry
o    Filing / creating / organizing student folders
o    General organizing
•    Contributes ongoing ideas for program development

Expectations
•    At least 7 hours per week, per semester; 14 hours per week is preferable – more hours available, if desired
•    Hours and Days available
o    Mornings: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM – Class session is 10 AM – 12 PM
o    Afternoons: 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM – Class session is 1 PM – 3 PM
o    Full day: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
o    Monday through Thursday – no Fridays
o    Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings: 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM (during semester) – Class session is 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
•    Choice of schedule formats
o    Full day
•    Hours as above
o    Half days
•    Any combination of half days
o    Evenings
o    Any combination of the above
o    Semesters are: Fall, Winter, Spring 1, Spring 2, and Summer
•    Fall, Spring 1, and Spring 2 are 8-week semesters
•    Winter and Summer semesters are 6-week semesters
