Rosalie Messick was Senior Lecturer and Spanish Language Teaching Coordinator for the first and second year Spanish courses from 1990 to 2012. She was a native Baltimorean with a passion for the Spanish language and cultures, especially those of Spain and Mexico where she travelled frequently. She was an outstanding administrator and mentor to our teaching assistants and adjunct instructors, and a Spanish teacher who consistently received top ratings in her courses. Rosalie was an ardent advocate of students studying abroad, an experience that changed her own life and career. She literally taught thousands of Spanish students in her years at UMBC. Rosalie’s lively and generous personality impacted many lives. She was a beloved colleague and will be missed.
